Volvo Cars has reached a major milestone, delivering its one millionth plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in September. The achievement highlights the brand’s progress toward full electrification while maintaining strong demand for hybrids as a bridge to that future.
Plug-in hybrids accounted for 23% of Volvo’s global sales in the first half of 2025, up from fewer than 46,000 units in 2019 to more than 177,000 in 2024. The XC60 and XC90 have been key drivers of this growth, with the XC60 leading the premium PHEV segment worldwide for the past three years.
Volvo recently expanded its lineup with the new XC70, its first long-range plug-in hybrid capable of more than 200 km of electric driving. The company now offers PHEV variants on five models, alongside six fully electric vehicles, giving customers a wide range of electrified options.
With one of the highest shares of PHEVs among legacy premium automakers, Volvo continues to strengthen its position in both hybrid and EV markets while paving the way for a fully electric future.
