One of our EVs was in the shop last week with a flat tire. The service loaner we borrowed was gasoline powered. I did not expect what happened next.
I did not enjoy driving the ICE-powered car. At all. The sound of the engine, the shift points, the acceleration, using 2 pedals, etc… I am so used to driving an EV that an ICE car is now significantly alien to me.
This isn’t to cast aspersions on ICE cars. ICE-powered vehicles are a part of our transportation network and will be around for years to come. Every day they help people get where they need to get and do what they need to do. Many people still enjoy the ICE cars they drive.
But what this does reinforce for me is that for many EV drivers, the experience of driving an EV can have a marked and substantive benefit. For me, the whole package of driving an EV is a game-changer. The acceleration, the torque, the relative quiet, the fact that I don’t have to ever visit a gas station. I knew I was a convert, but after last week’s experience I now know there is a 0% chance that I would ever choose an ICE-powered vehicle again.
